The Digital Administration Code (Article 21, paragraph 1, of Legislative Decree No. 82 of 2005, as amended) provides that citizens and businesses may send requests and declarations electronically to a Certified Electronic Mailbox of the Administration of interest.

In particular, applications and declarations sent electronically to a certified electronic mailbox are valid if sent from a certified electronic mailbox or from a non-certified electronic mailbox but signed by digital signature. In such cases they are equivalent to requests and declarations signed with handwritten signature in the presence of the employee assigned to the procedure.

Therefore, the use of such certified e-mail boxes is appropriate only if it is intended to send requests or declarations to competent Offices in the specific matter.
