The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) makes available the Regional Reports on medicine consumption, an in-depth analysis at the territorial level in Italy. Each Region has a specific report that provides detailed data on expenditure and consumption, relating both to the approved care regime and to purchases by public health facilities.

The Reports analyze the main indicators, with a focus on therapeutic subgroups and active ingredients with major economic and consumption impact, compared with the national average and distinguished by distribution channel. In addition, they include an in-depth analysis of the most prescribed medicines in 2023, such as antibiotics, oncology medicines and anti-hypertensives; on biosimilars and equivalents, and on the consumption of medicines subject to AIFA Notes.

These detailed analyses at regional level represent a strategic tool to support health planning as well as training and information initiatives, useful not only for Regions, but for all the actors in the system, to identify problems and solutions and optimise the allocation of resources. The analysis is based on data from the OsMed flow and Medicine Traceability flow, ensuring a comprehensive view of territorial and hospital pharmaceutical care.
