Press release n. 7/2024 - Thomas Südhof, Nobel Laureate in Medicine, held a Lectio magistralis on pharmaceutical innovation at the Agency’s premises, entitled ‘Advances in Biotechnology: Innovations Driving Drug Discovery in Brain Disorders’. The lectio magistralis was an important opportunity for discussion and updating on a highly topical scientific issue.
The event, strongly supported by AIFA’s President Robert Giovanni Nisticò, was widely attended by the Agency’s staff, and was an opportunity for dynamic and fruitful exchange.
“The great challenges of the current century – stated the German biologist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2013 thanks to studies on synaptic transmission – are those aimed at preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, also through a correct use of digital transformation in biomedical research”.
“We are an agency that regulates medicines, but we should not forget the scientific context in which medicines are born – said President Nisticò. We must keep up with the times and be aware that today’s scientific discoveries will be tomorrow’s regulatory assessments”.
