AIFA presents the National Report on antibiotics use in Italy - Year 2020
On Thursday 10 March 2022, the Italian Medicines Agency presented the National Report "The use of antibiotics in Italy - Year 2020".
The report, drafted by AIFA’s Medicines Utilisation Monitoring Centre (OsMed), monitors the consumption and expenditure related to antibiotics in Italy. The report also analyses the use of antibiotics in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as private purchases, with a specific focus on prescription in the paediatric and elderly population. In addition to data on consumption in Italy compared with other European countries, the report contains a more in-depth analysis of the indicators for antibiotic prescription appropriateness in the general practice, as well as an impact evaluation of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on antibiotics use, which also includes the first eight months of 2021.
