Press release no. 17/2024 - “The monitoring data for pharmaceutical expenditure for January-February 2024 are preliminary data and hardly predictive of the expenditure that will subsequently be consolidated at the end of 2024”, specifies the Technical-Scientific Director of the Italian Medicines Agency Pierluigi Russo. “In this regard - he continues - the direct purchasing choices of the Regions in the first two months of the year undoubtedly recorded an anomalous increase compared to the trend in consumption. In addition, the regulatory interventions provided for in the 2024 budget law have led to updates in consumption reporting, including the updating of the format on the basis of which AIFA receives data on pharmaceutical expenditure by the Regions. To date, the Agency is still receiving corrections from some Regions to the data relating to the months of March and April”.
In any case, the monitoring documents for January-March and January-April 2024 will be sent to the next Board of Directors, with subsequent publication on the institutional portal.
